2020: A humbling year of adapting, and sharing gratitude
Olympic Companies SD started off the year as any other, but soon were confronted—like everyone else—by COVID and all the other things the pandemic brought with it. The local leadership dealt with uncertainty—how it was going to impact individuals, workload, employment—that slowly transitioned into pragmatically managing how they work through the pandemic. "It continues to be that way for us. And what's been remarkable is how our crews have remained positive!" said Dean Sands, Branch Manager/Vice President, Olympic Companies, South Dakota.
Moving from food service to construction to find consistency and longevity
"My career began when I started working at Olympic."
After 11 years in food service, Seth Weber made the move to the construction industry as the Warehouse Manager for Olympic Companies in Sioux Falls. "I've probably been here the least out of anybody in the company, if I had to guess. I started working in the shop in January of this year," he said.
Building a career & life through Olympic Companies
"My career began when I started working at Olympic."
Gerson Cortez has been with Olympic Companies SD for a year and seven months. He applied to be a carpenter when his cousin told him about the construction company. "He said he was working for a really good company where they only worked eight-hour days, and encouraged me to apply," said Cortez. He had already been working in the trade, on sheetrock projects for himself to working for other companies.
