Description of Project:
The Minnehaha County Jail project consisted of a vertical expansion of the existing inmate dormitory building and a 130,000 square foot addition off the East side of the building. The new addition, made up of two floors, now houses several new departments including Intake, 24/7 program, jail administration offices, judicial support, additional cell blocks, a medical clinic, and more. The addition and vertical expansion has collectively added over 300 beds to the facility.
Phase 1: Vertical Expansion
Phase 1 was the vertical expansion of the existing jail. The expansion needed to be executed without causing disruption to the inmates and staff, so we worked on this vertical expansion without using the existing four stories of the building. Additionally, given the nature of the building usage, there were several security measures in place while the crews delivered all the equipment and materials up to the job site floor. The Olympic team worked through these challenges effectively, and this portion of the project created an additional availability of over 100 beds for Minnehaha County.
