Description of Project:

A two story Surgical Center with over 45,000 square feet of space which includes operating rooms, medical offices and riverfront patient suites overlooking the Missouri River.

Major Challenge:

With a wet spring and summer, working just feet away from the Missouri River provided the most difficult challenge.  We could not set up scaffolding to do our EIFS so we used 50' all terrain lifts to do all of it.  We also paid careful attention to any potentiail soil erosion in the area.

Description of Project:

The Minnehaha County Jail project consisted of a vertical expansion of the existing inmate dormitory building and a 130,000 square foot addition off the East side of the building. The new addition, made up of two floors, now houses several new departments including Intake, 24/7 program, jail administration offices, judicial support, additional cell blocks, a medical clinic, and more. The addition and vertical expansion has collectively added over 300 beds to the facility.

Phase 1: Vertical Expansion

Phase 1 was the vertical expansion of the existing jail. The expansion needed to be executed without causing disruption to the inmates and staff, so we worked on this vertical expansion without using the existing four stories of the building. Additionally, given the nature of the building usage, there were several security measures in place while the crews delivered all the equipment and materials up to the job site floor. The Olympic team worked through these challenges effectively, and this portion of the project created an additional availability of over 100 beds for Minnehaha County.

Description of Project:

Interior renovation of approximately 50,000 SF of existing ICU, surgical space, and ambulatory care on the second floor of the Avera McKennan Hospital to create a new Surgery and GI Area. Project included 18 operating rooms, 34 pre/post/pacu beds, 3 GI procedures, ERCP, MRI, and staff support spaces.

Major Challenge:

This project was broken into 4 major phases to keep the existing OR rooms in each phase operational. Working in this project and allowing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to remain operational for future / existing phases caused some work flow challenges for all trades to keep existing systems functional in a construction environment, along with working with hospital staff schedules and patient rooms to tie into systems that involved renovation work in rooms on floors above and below the second floor renovation work space.
